The 2010 Show
A RECORD 28,200 people turned out in Corbridge on Bank Holiday Monday May 31 for the highlight of the agricultural year, the Northumberland County Show. The sun blazed over Tynedale Park as farmers, traders and entertainers enjoyed another lively day. Entries in both the industrial and agricultural sections were up, and the Forster family from Lowes Fell, Hexham, became the first in the show’s history to win the Champion of Champions accolade for the second time in a row.
With over 300 trade stands and competitive classes from baking to cattle, there was something for everyone at the show. Dropping in on the main ring were the Golden Lions Scottish Infantry Parachute Display team. During their display the five-man jump team exited their aircraft at 7,000ft, with at least one of the team free-falling at speeds reaching 120mph.
But if anything can be described as a show highlight it’s got to be the Imps Motor Cycle Display Squad, the 38-strong team performed daredevil moves around the main arena, but the biggest surprise was that the smallest team members are just six years old and the oldest 16.
